At Bethany Church, we strive to follow the example of Jesus when it comes to welcoming our children. In the Gospel of Mark, we read the Lord’s words, “‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” (Mark 10:14-16) At the same time, we recognize that God has given parents an important command, “Do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4)
The Hebrew Scriptures had already laid a foundation for this training and instruction. To the Children of Israel, God issues a directive, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-8)
At Bethany, we dedicate children during our regular Sunday worship services, so the entire Family of God can participate. (In our tradition, we dedicate rather than baptize children.) We schedule dedications approximately once every quarter.
If you are interested in having your child dedicated, please fill out the following form, and we will respond as soon as possible. Thank you for your interest.
