Birthdays: Sara - December 16
The Ministry
Sara coordinates a team of more than twenty people working with two poor communities on the western edge of San José. In each community, there is a multi-purpose building used for outreach through remedial classes, community library, sewing classes, computer classes, English classes, and Bible studies. In Carpio there is also a medical clinic, and ministries to youth through a refuge for adolescent girls and a recreation-discipleship program for teens. Sara's specific responsibility is teaching the remedial classes. She has developed a system of individualized learning that mentors each child at their ability. A Bible club and Sunday school program are part of the outreach, and attendance is encouraged through her classes for the students
A Story From Sara
Sara has been working in Pavas Costa Rica since 1988 and in Carpio since 1995. She tells this story about a family in Pavas: A family of five: Father, Mother and three children. When we met them, the mother was a new Christian, and had not grown spiritually. Through home Bible studies, she learned, grew, and changed. Her husband came to Christ as a result of the English classes; the three kids came to Jesus through our camps. They all continue to serve the Lord. Their son back-slid, but has returned to following God and now has a vision to reach out to the drug addicts who hang-out near our building. Their youngest daughter (17 years old) is currently studying in Seminary with a long-term goal of missions.
