I said yes to being an usher every Sunday because this is more than a role to me—it’s a calling. I spent a lot of my life in survival mode, carrying pain and trying to hold everything together. When I found Jesus, He didn’t just improve my life… He rescued me. Serving every Sunday keeps me close to God, grounded in faith, and reminds me that my life has purpose. I want every person who walks in—especially the ones who are hurting or tired—to feel safe, welcomed, and supported before they even sit down.

A year ago, I heard Pastor Bruce talk about serving and I thought to myself, I wish I was brave enough to branch out, not be so shy and help. The next day, I got an email asking if I would help in my daughter’s classroom. I said YES and have been serving ever since. Serving fills parts of me that were empty. I overcame my shyness, have met people, have been able to share the Gospel and have been involved in my daughter’s faith on another level. Serving at Bethany allows me to serve God by using my gifts that He gave me.

Truthfully, I’ve rarely said, “YES” when asked to volunteer for much of anything, anywhere. I’m usually scared to death to say YES. But God has brought me around once I realized that He’s the one who is doing the asking. I enjoy serving in Kid’s Ministry, getting to know the kids and their parents. Greeting has been a good way for me to learn everyone’s name and help new folks not feel so awkward. It is a great feeling when God pokes you about someone who’s been missing and you have a chance to reach out and check in! Cool!

I love kids and enjoy singing so it made sense to work in Kids Ministry and the Worship Team. It helped me feel a part of the church and because it aligns with things I enjoy, it fills my bucket and holds me accountable.

I have found that serving in the Security Team brings me naturally into a small circle of friends that have common interests and goals. But also working with the group gives me an opportunity to meet everyone else. Serving is the most tangible way to love the family of God. But is also makes it easier for others to love you as well.

Going to church every week wasn’t enough, I needed more. I love the Lord, I love meeting new people, and I love sharing my faith with others. I felt that I needed to use my gifts to serve so my husband and I opened our home for a small group and I started serving in the Hospitality Team. This has made me complete. Church is where people come searching for a purposeful life and I am blessed to be able to reach out to them.
